![]() Sorry if my spelling is bad I tried proof reading but I always miss something). If you're one of those people who think cartoons are just for kids and that anyone over age twelve who watches anime is a complete loser, then you need to take a look at Fullmetal Alchemist. (Please tell me what you think it would help a bunch. Also both intresting interpretations I felt I should include incase anyone wants to expand on that. Or i also heard it being describe it as purifying something that is venomous. The contrast between sin and the divine might be almost like the ying yang as i heard someone put it when researching. The rod was used by Moses to heal people just by looking at it. It is seen to only have one snake like the flamel. Though this was apparently this is because it was mistake for the Rod of Asclepius(named after Asclepius, the greek god of medicine). The Caduceus later came(around the 19th-20th century) to be associated with medicine which we can link to healing. This symbol could be taken from the greek god hermes(who is associated with travel and alchemy, both themes in the show) he is seen to wear a helmet with wings and a rod with two serpents called theĬaduceus. The serpent could be interpreted as a sign of healing as the brothers set out to 'heal' their bodies. Lastly the crown and wings might reprosent god and being striked down, as it towers above the symbol. Eve lets the snake fool her just as Edward fools for alchemly believeing it could solve all his problems. The serpent represent sin (from a biblical viewpoint) and the cross being a nod to the snake being crucified by a divine power. It obvious that Fullmet alchemist uses much bibical symbolism and to me the flamel does in some ways reprosent that. We do not see this symbol being worn by the Elrics till after they commits human transmutation and begins their redemtion arc (which might explain why Edward stops wearing it after regaining his body). The symbol was created by Nicolas Flamel who spent his life study alchemy particularly the philosopher stone. In Alchemy, the Flamel represents the "fixing of the volatile" though im not too certain on what that means(maybe it refers to a rebond or overcoming?). The symbol (the crucified serpent that is) is called the Flamel so thats what i will be refering to it as from now on. I'd love to make this into a essay or youtube video so please interact and share what you think the symbol means. I want to discuss the symbols in fma and im starting a debate.
